Academic > Drawing 2
Drawing 2 - Starts with drawing a five sided apple. The shape and planes are articulated proportionatly and then a series of cross contour lines are sketched out creating a wireframe grid on the skin of the form. Light / Shadow patterns are developed with strokes in the direction of the cross contour introducing marks that suggest surface direction as well as value differences. This is explored further in black on white and black and white on grey paper still life drawings. As always compositional choices are a part of the process. Concepts such as free association, sub-concious choice and post-structural narratives and hierarchies are explored in a composition utilizing photographic source materials. The semester finishes with color studies guided by Johannes Itten's 6 contrasts using pastels.
