Academic > Life Drawing 1
Life Drawing 1 - Starts with sketching the skeleton leading to a finished drawing on black paper. This allows the students to gain an understanding of proportion and work on any weaknesses in drawing technique. Gesture drawing is introduced and maintained throughout the semester. Students are introduced to anatomy and structural methods throughout the term. Concepts such as perspective, foreshortening, planar analysis, and volumetric shading are utilized to increase the illusion of 3D space and form. Homework starts with figures composed of cylinders, moves into hand, foot, and head studies, then self portraits, artist copies, incorporating a figure drawn in class into another environment, and a final 'Ambitious Project' that is open but must show a knowlege of the human body.
